Looking forinformationabout my father
My father 1st lt. James D. Brown was a pilot with the mosquitos 50-51 I believe. We have an old radio interview on 78 rpm record of my father detailing the chinese entering the conflict and the mosquitos sighting them. He received the DFC for this. If anyone remembers him please email me. Thank you.

City/Country: Lavington, British Columbia, Canada
Comments: Your site has been very helpful in my research for a painting of the T6 Texan in action commissioned by the Princess Patricia\'s Canadian Light Infantry Assoc. for the Museum of the Regiments in Calgary as a tribute to members of that regiment who were Mosquitos. The image will also be used in an upcoming book on the Canadian contribution in the air in Korea including the Mosquitos. I have made limited edition prints of the painting that can be seen at my web site at: http://www.segunart.com. The web site just went up so it won\'t be in search engines yet - to view it just type that address into the address box of your browser. Paul Seguna, Aviation artist

City/Country: Tucson, AZ
Comments: I am an historian conducting research on military aviation training on the Gila Bend Gunnery Range, Arizona, (now known as the Barry M. Goldwater Range) during the World War II and early Cold War eras. In May 1953, the Air Training Command implemented the T-6 Air Controller Course at Luke AFB. During the four-week course, student pilots flew missions over a specially constructed range comprising simulated enemy positions. William Cleveland\'s book \"Mosquitos in Korea\" places the specialized range approximately 14 miles east of the Gila Bend Gunnery Range. I would like to pinpoint the exact location and document what, if anything, remains of this inactive target site. If anyone in the association trained at Luke during 1953 and has maps, photographs, or any information that might help verify the location of the air controller range, I can be reached at the above email address. Thank you.

Comments: My father, William R. (Bill) Tate helped a pretty little orphan girl that he nicknamed \"Little Alma\" after my mother in the\'50s. I believe this was at Osan Air Base. My parents wanted to adopt her but we didn\'t have enough money. As I recall, she was adopted by an officer\'s family. I have always wondered what happened to \"Little Alma\". I would also want her to know that my Dad still cared about her until he passed away in December 2000. Dad was assigned to Crash Crews during the war and in a later tour around 1958. If the little girl he loved reads this, please contact me by e-mail. \"Little Bill\" Tate (Vietnam Vet)

Comments: Pleased, and very honored, to meet you guys. I\'m a young historian at LAFB VA, and, having read Futrell\'s \"USAF in Korea\" some time ago, have since been utterly fascinated with your group. (In fact, I haven\'t been able to forget some of what I read in Futrell about those original \"Mosquitos.\") Have done some light, intermittent research involving your group since then, in the larger context of research I\'ve done in the course of my work. Now, in graduate school, I\'m pleased to say I have a chance to pursue your group as the subject of a rather large essay for a particular class. May I contact one or more of you further through this website for research? I aim, for example, to purchase the two books listed herein.

I look forward to hearing from you and/or reading further.

Thanks!!

Comments: A picture of my birthday party at K-6 on November 6, 1951 is in the History of the Mosquitos. I was an aerial observer at K-6 (Aug 51-April52). On my second mission we were jumped by a YAK 9 and I wasn\'t bright enough to realize we were in any danger. The pilot had a Boston accent is all I remember and he wasn't worried at all about the other plane.
My favorite pilot was \"Pappy\" Walker, who could not do a coordinated turn. He died several years ago.

After I left the service in 1951, I went to Washington University in St. Louis and became an architect.

Comments: As a Jr S/Sgt I worked "Behind the GREEN Door" (Crypto) from June \'51 to Jun \'52. The commcenter was underground at K-6. We were the ones that passed out the Codes for the pilots who flew the missions). At first we lived in the 6 man tents for a while and ate out of our mess gear \'til they built the new Mess hall and the new barracks.
We had a Korean House Boy named Han Yong Su.
I remember when the 12th marine Air unit (with F4U\'s) that was there for a while. Then there was the day the Fledgling Korean Air Force pilots that came in to K6 with their F-51\'s (to escape the typhoon near Pusan) and the one who turned right and went down through the ditch between the taxiway and the Base Hq, (messing up his tail section), then bumping up on to the tarmac and nearly running into the Base Commander before he got his \'51 stopped. We all had a (scare) laugh about that...
We later moved up to K-47 (chungchon) where I helped supervise the building construction of the new Comm/Crypto Center. The very strong odor of the Camphor Wood Plywood that was used coupled with the Kim-chee they ate made it difficult to be near the Korean workers, but we had to make sure that no listening devices were built into the walls during the construction. It was an interesting tour. I would like to know what ever became of Lionel E. Hewitt. I\'ve never seen his name mentioned anywhere. I\'d like to contact him if someone knows where he can be reached.

Comments: Dear Sir,

With deepest regret, I have to inform you of the death of my father-Leslie Bjorklund. He passed away in 1996 in Memphis, TN. He was a Lt.Colonel, USAF retired and was a Member of the Korean War Mosquito group. I have a copy of the Korean Air War book where he is pictured in front of a T-6. He was very proud to have been a Mosquito FAC. Just wanted you to have this information for your record update. Sincerely..Bill Bjorklund

Comments: I am writing a book about three battles of the Korean War:Chipyong-ni, Twin Tunnels and Kunu-ri. Air Support played a huge role in all three battles. I would like to contact FACs or fighter pilots who flew missions during those battles.
I was an infantry advisor in Vietnam(1967-68) and got to know our TACP very well. A professional group, especially one major whose callsign was \"Snap 4.\"

Comments: Great website with some awesome history of the roots of my the TACP career field. Several of us are interested in using the mosquito patch or aspects incoporated into a \'self-authorized\' patch for wear in Iraq and Afghanistan. Would the Organization mind? If not, does anyone have a digital copy that could get emailed to me? Thanks!
